WHO WE ARE
ABOUT US
AIMIG – Association of Italian Friends of the
The Israel Museum in Jerusalem places cultural cooperation with the Israel Museum in Jerusalem at the heart of its activities along four main lines:
-
– to encourage the award of scholarships to Italian students for the purpose of undertaking internships at the Museum;
-
– to fund historical research on Italy’s artistic heritage within the Youth Wing (a pavilion dedicated to young people), with the aim of increasing cooperation between Jewish and Palestinian children through a shared artistic and cultural language;
-
– to promote and integrate exhibitions by contemporary Italian artists, whether solo or group shows, within the Museum’s contemporary art wing;
-
– to raise funds for the restoration of the Italian Pavilion at the Israel Museum.
The aim is to involve young Italian graduates and university students from art faculties in advanced training internships, offering them the opportunity to deepen their knowledge through a modern and stimulating experience—one that allows them to experience the museum not as a distant or unfamiliar place, but as a vibrant and engaging environment.
The Israel Museum in Jerusalem is the country’s largest cultural institution. In the more than 50 years since its founding, it has assembled—thanks to donations from major patrons—over 500,000 works of art, becoming one of the most important museums in the world. It ranks 72nd globally, with approximately 950,000 visitors per year, and occupies an exceptionally vast campus. From the photograph shown above, one can appreciate the scale of the grounds, which include the Shrine of the Book, housing the
Qumran manuscripts dating back to the time of Jesus Christ, discovered in caves near the Dead Sea.
The complex consists of around 20 buildings forming the various pavilions, as well as an enormous Sculpture Garden (the Rose Garden), home to major masterpieces of Land Art.
A center of excellence within the Museum is the Youth Wing, opened in 1966 and dedicated to young audiences. It hosts artistic and experimental activities for both children and adults and is unique in its model and range of programs. Each year it offers a wide variety of initiatives to more than 100,000 schoolchildren from across the country, with the dual purpose of building a bridge between the museum and the public, and of fostering museum education and social cohesion. Here, Jewish and Palestinian children play and work together, learning to move beyond cultural, social, and religious barriers, supported and accompanied by their parents.
