2018 IULM Scholarship Award – Giuseppe Cristian Bonanomi

This year as well, the internship experience at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem—organized by Associazione degli Amici Italiani dell’Israel Museum (AIMIG) in partnership with Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione IULM through a dedicated scholarship—has successfully come to an end.The student Giuseppe Cristian Bonanomi, a graduate student in Arts, Heritage, and Markets, departed for Jerusalem on July 16 and returned to Italy on August 26, enriched by the knowledge and experience gained during this valuable six-week internship.

We had already seen him in the very first photo received from the Museum, wearing his new intern badge while working on a project for the Department of Egyptian Archaeology. We see him again here engaged in the digitization of several works from the Print and Drawings Department, as well as in other exciting activities—documented through photographs and emails he sent us, all filled with enthusiasm and satisfaction.

At the conclusion of his experience, he writes:

“Good morning,

Today is my last working day at the Israel Museum, and with this message I would like to kindly update you on my experience.

I would like once again to thank Associazione degli Amici Italiani dell’Israel Museum (AIMIG) for this extraordinary opportunity.

Over the past 40 days, I have collaborated with the departments of Israel Art, Print and Drawings, Ancient Glass, and Exhibition Design.

I was able to deepen my knowledge of and learn about the methods of cataloguing and conserving artifacts, artworks, prints, and books housed in the various storage rooms. I followed the processes involved in updating data and information for the Museum’s database and also had the opportunity to revisit and apply AutoCAD design work together with the Design Department.

The Israel Museum is an encyclopedic institution and is therefore able to explore a wide range of subjects. During this internship period, I was fortunate to embrace this philosophy by working on no fewer than four different projects.

I would like to thank AIMIG and its President, Allison Kupietzky, and Blimi of the Israel Museum for introducing me to and guiding me through the various departments, as well as all the staff members with whom I collaborated. They shared with me life experiences that go far beyond the professional sphere and today saw me off with an outpouring of affection, gratitude, and gifts.

Giuseppe
